The DAC8742HPBSR family of precision, low-voltage, monolithic digital-to-analog converters (DACs) are designed to provide excellent performance and low power operation in a variety of system applications. These devices deliver a monotonic, linear output in response to an input digital code. The DAC8742HPBSR family can be used in a wide variety of applications, such as high speed data acquisition systems, industrial automation and control, medical instrumentation, process analysis and machine control, etc.

The DAC8742HPBSR is a high-precision, low-voltage, monolithic digital-to-analog converter (DAC) with a wide operating temperature range. It is available in a miniature 8-pin DIP or SOIC package and operates from a single 3-V to 5.5-V supply. The DAC offers a 12-bit performance over the -55°C to +125°C temperature range with a maximum total unadjusted error of ±3 LSB and a 0.5 LSB integral nonlinearity accuracy. The selectable output range of the device allows it to be used in a variety of applications, including data acquisition systems, industrial control, medical instrumentation, process analysis, and machine control applications.

The active element of the DAC8742HPBSR is a low power 3-/4-quadrature conversion network. This network provides a high resolution, low dynamic error output with a fast settling time. The device generates a monotonic output over the full temperature range, providing excellent dynamic performance and maintaining the accuracy of the output code. The DAC8742HPBSR has an onboard voltage reference that can be used to set the output range. The output reference range is selectable between 2.5 V, 3 V and 5 V.

When the device is driven with a digital code, the 3/4-quadrature network generates a comprehensive output of pure quadrature components. The output voltage is proportional to the input digital code and can be calculated byVout = Vin * 2N-1 * (C0 + C1*x + C2*x2 + C3*x3 + C4*x4 + C5*x5 + C6*x6 + C7*x7 + C8*x8) where N is the resolution of the device, and x is the code value corresponding to the full scale output voltage.

The DAC8742HPBSR\'s state-of-the-art architecture uses a proprietary, built-in I-LFE (Integrated Low Frequency Error) technique for improved linearity and low noise. The device also features a built-in Power-On-Reset circuit to ensure the DAC8742HPBSR operates from the default state when powered on. The device\'s architecture is optimized to achieve very low power consumption, while maintaining excellent performance. It operates at single supply voltages between 3 volts and 5.5 volts and typically consumes less than 0.3 mA at 5.5 V.
