Design and Working Principle of DB106 Bridge Rectifiers
DB106 bridge rectifiers consist of four rectifier diodes connected in a configuration called a “Bridge.” The rectifier diodes are connected in such way that makes it possible to obtain full-wave rectification without the use of a center tapped transformer or any other form of secondary windings. The DB106 has a built-in thermal shutdown function that protects the device from being overloaded and allows the device to restart safely.
In a bridge rectifier with four diodes, when the AC voltage is applied, the current flows through two diodes, one of them acting as the source and the other as the sink. Then when the polarity reverses, the diode that was the source switches to become the sink and the diode that was the sink switches to become the source. As a result, the output side of the bridge rectifier consists of a positive and a negative output which alternates between the positive and negative cycles of the AC voltage.
In addition, DB106 bridge rectifiers are designed as glass passivated junction diodes for high-speed switching applications and feature low thermal resistance junction-to-case.
