DC1326A is a high performance, low power off-line switch mode power supply (SMPS) evaluation board. It is an integrated power supply system designed for evaluation and development of applications in the off-line switching power supply (DC/DC & AC/DC) field.

DC1326A is based on an advanced DualMode PFC topology with primary side control. This type of PFC topology is attractive for a wide range of off-line SMPS applications. Its operation mode is optimized for improved efficiency, better immunity against line voltage levels variations and utilization of integrated active front-end (AFE) functions.

The DC1326A evaluation board has a wide input voltage range from 80 Vac to 265 Vac and offers a wide load range from 1.8 A to 3.6 A at low main output voltage. As an alternative, the board is able to provide the same load range with a fixed main output voltage of 13.8 Vac. Output power of the board reaches up to 45 W.

The design of the DC1326A board is based on LinFinity’s LFP08A00 AFE controller IC and Fairchild Semiconductor’s FSDM0275R power MOSFETs. The AFE is used to provide primary control for the MOSFETs for reduced power dissipation and improved efficiency. The secondary side of the board includes an external power diode, several Schottky diodes and a transformer for voltage regulation.

The operational principle of DC1326A is simple. During the active PFC mode of operation, the MOSFETs switch at fixed frequency and are pulse width modulated (PWM) in order to properly control the output voltage. The switching frequency is determined by the oscillator frequency, which in turn is determined by the voltage applied to the oscillator control line.

During the turn-off phase of the MOSFETs, the external power diode, located in the secondary side of the circuit, is used to shunt the energy remaining in the transformer’s primary coil. The energy stored in the secondary coil of the transformer is then discharged through the output capacitors. This ensures that output voltage is regulated at the correct value even during load transients.

The DC1326A evaluation board is a useful tool for power engineers in the evaluation and development of DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPSs.
