DC1525B-D Working Principle
The DC1525B-D EVB consists of three main parts: the LTC2217 SAR ADC, an analog input signal source, and a digital-to-analog converter (DAC). It has the ability to generate and digitise bipolar signals that are between -4.095 V and 4.095 V. The LTC2217 operates by first performing an initial approximation of the signal voltage using the two-level scaling algorithm. This algorithm then divides the input voltage range into two equal parts. The reference voltage is then set and updated according to the estimated input voltage. The ADC then performs a binary search, calculating the midpoint between the reference voltages and updating the search with each iteration until the error is less than 1.The ADC then repeats the process until all of the binary signals are complete, and the digital data for the output signal is calculated. This process is referred to as the Successive Approximation Register because it approximates the voltage levels to determine the final digital output. The DAC adds an extra stage to the conversion, where it takes the digital output and converts it back to analog. This analog signal then controls the PGA, which in turn acts on the analog input signal.Conclusion
