DC1755A is an advanced evaluation module designed and developed by Infineon. It is an integrated high efficiency low component count off-line flyback SMPS with the high performance DICE-2 family MCU as the core device. It is a programmable module of the same module family, which supports a wide input voltage range, high efficiency, low standby power, and high reliability.
DC1755A is mainly used in LED backlighting applications, such as LCD TV displays, led light box backlighting, automotive instrument panels, automotive center consoles and automotive headunits. It provides an evaluation platform for designers to develop and evaluate board size and cost efficient power solutions. The SMPS provides a typical efficiency of 91% at 100VAC input and 65% full load, allowing applications to stay within the required efficiency level.
The DC1755A SMPS works in a regular off-line flyback topology. The input voltage is rectified and stored in a bulk capacitor. During the start-up period, the controller allows an increased amount of energy to be stored into the bulk capacitor until the output voltage reaches the specified voltage. Then, the controller decreases the amount of energy depending on the load and maintains the output voltage constant. The controller senses the output voltage and adjusts the pulse width modulation (PWM) duty cycle for the output power accordingly.
The advanced Infineon DICE-2 MCU provides accurate voltage and current measurements. It also allows control of various parameters, such as output overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP) and soft start time. The Active Burst Mode (ABM) allows the IC to reduce the light load power to reduce power consumption and minimize switching losses. The MCU also provides automatic identification of the input voltage range, which enables efficient operation in universal line voltage applications.
The DC1755A SMPS supports a wide input voltage range of 85 to 277VAC and a wide output voltage range of 6 to 24V. The board offers a standby power of less than 0.2W, allowing LED backlighting applications to meet their strict energy saving requirements. The SMPS also provides an output power of up to 36 watts at low output ripple and EMI levels. Other features include dimmable LED with pulse width modulated (PWM) controlled dimming, analog dimming, dimming range adjustment and selectable input voltage ranges for universal operation.
The DC1755A SMPS evaluation module is a reliable platform for the design of cost effective and high efficiency LED backlighting solutions. The board offers a wide input voltage range, high efficiency, low standby power and high reliability.
