DC1739A-B is an evaluation board used to evaluate the features, performance, and functionality of the Power Integrations DPA-Switch series of offline AC/DC switch-mode power supplies. It can provide a regulated output voltage of up to 24V DC at 5A. The board is designed to operate in control, stand-by, and off-mode, and provides code development resources. This board can be used to develop, tune, and evaluate DPA-Switch-based power solutions ranging from 5V/2A to 24V/5A.The DPA-Switch series of AC/DC switch-mode power supplies incorporates Power Integrations\' proprietary Line Drop Compensator (LDC) technology and architecture to reduce system cost and improve total efficiency. The DPA-Switch family offers outstanding power performance, high switching frequency, low loss magnetics, and competitive cost.The DC1739A-B evaluation board consists of two daughter boards mounted on a single heatsink. The first board (DC1739A) is the power stage, consisting of a DPA-Switch regulator, an auxiliary supply, a secondary stage, and a thermal design. This board is used to generate the desired output voltage (up to 24V) at 5A current. The second board (DC1739B) is the control stage, which includes a microcontroller, external components, and connector. The microcontroller can be used to configure the system parameters, such as output voltage, power-up/down sequencing, and additional features.The DC1739A-B board offers a wide range of features, including over-current protection, adjustable output-voltage slew rates, programmable soft-start, adjustable input-voltage hysteresis, and output-voltage trim. It also has a separate programming socket on the edge of the PCB for installation of firmware code. The board can be used as a reference design for DPA-Switch based designs and controlled via its programming port and GUI. The current limiting feature allows the user to set the current limit and reduce over-current events.The working principle of DC1739A-B is as follows. During power up, the internal microcontroller turns on the power stage, configures the output voltage to the user-defined level, and initiates power-up sequencing. During operation the power stage provides a regulated output voltage.The microcontroller continuously monitors the output voltage and triggers over-current/over-voltage protection when necessary. When the output voltage reaches the set point, the microcontroller docks or shuts off the power depending on user configuration. The DC1739A-B board can be programmed via the programming port. The microcontroller can also be configured to operate in different frequency modes, such as high and low speed, depending on the application needs. The DC1739A-B evaluation board provides an economical, efficient, and quick platform for evaluating and testing DPA-Switch-based power solutions. Power Integrations provides a “Quick Start” guide and a user manual with all relevant information regarding the board and the application.
