DC1757B is a two-phases step-down DC/DC evaluation board from Texas Instruments Solutions\' suite of power supply evaluation boards. It is a desktop evaluation board that operates as an off-line switch mode power supply (SMPS). It enables evaluation of the company\'s range of integrated circuit controllers for DC/DC converters, namely, LX7880 and TLV7880. This application field, working principle and features will now be discussed in detail.

Application fields

DC1757B is a low-cost and user-friendly evaluator board that is primarily used to evaluate and optimize the performance of DC/DC converters. The board features a built-in oscilloscope along with the ability to simulate the entire AC line, making it a great tool for evaluating different medium- to high‑volume PowerPoint applications. Working Principle

DC1757B is a two-phases step-down DC/DC evaluation board. It works by converting an AC line voltage into a DC output voltage. The board consists of an AC/DC converter, a switching converter, and a overvoltage protection circuitry. The AC/DC converter is responsible for rectifying the input AC voltage by converting it to a DC output voltage. By varying the size of the rectifier diode, the efficiency of the rectification process can be improved.The switching converter is responsible for regulating the output voltage. It consists of a pulse-width modulated (PWM) controller and a MOSFET-based switch. The PWM controller regulates the duty cycle of the switch, thereby regulating the output voltage.The overvoltage protection circuitry helps to protect the circuit against overvoltage conditions. It consists of a current sense transistor, a diode and a voltage clamping element. Whenever the output voltage exceeds a predefined voltage threshold, the current sense transistor is activated, and the diode and voltage-clamping element are used to shutdown the circuit.

Features

DC1757B features a wide range of features such as a built-in oscilloscope for evaluating the circuit, an on-board programming port, PWM dimming control, undervoltage protection, and a short-circuit protection. It also comes with a comprehensive GUI which allows users to configure the board to suit their application requirements. The board features an isolated input and output, an adjustable line voltage range from 85 VAC to 265 VAC, an adjustable output voltage range from 0.5 VDC to 20 VDC, and an adjustable current limit from 0.5 A to 30 A. It is also compliant with a variety of safety standards including IEC60950-1, EN60950-1, EN61131-2, ANSI/UL60950-1, UL 1062 and UL 60950-SS2.
