DC1759A is an Evaluation Boards - DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS designed to give an extensive range of evaluation capabilities in a single board. It is specifically designed to demonstrate the features and performance of the LTC3789-1 synchronous controllers for DC/DC and AC/DC off-line SMPS applications. The board contains an adjustable DC input stage, an AC line section, and a synchronous DC/DC converter output stage with optional elimination of power dissipations by means of a low-side MOSFET. The application field includes high current, high voltage supplies, so it is ideal for offline power supply solutions for a wide range of consumer, industrial, networking and other applications.

The DC1759A features a synchronous buck regulator stage with an on-board integrated high-side and low-side MOSFETs that enable high conversion efficiency with full step load and line regulation without the need for external components. The synchronous buck stage relies on the LTC3789-1’s current mode architecture and operates at a fixed frequency of 160kHz. It does not generate the steep slopes than traditional fixed-frequency control methods as its synchronous design is able to provide constant on-time performance.

The DC1759A also includes a low-side MOSFET which is used to allow the possibility to completely eliminate power dissipations and make the board as efficient as possible. This option allows for reducing the overall power dissipated in the converter without compromising the performance of the converter. The board also features both positive and negative-current limit settings as well as over temperature protection.

The AC input section incorporates a full bridge rectifier and a two-phase input section to provide isolation from the AC line. It also features two adjustable current limit settings that provide the flexibility for the user to define its limits for design flexibility. The two-phase input also removes the need for DC blocking capacitors.

The board also incorporates the LTC3789-1 power control IC which provides on-board fault protection along with several different methods of controlling and monitoring the functionality of the board. This includes the ability to adjust the PWM frequency, current limit, over-temperature protection, and sequencing of the synchronous buck conversion stage. The LTC3789-1 also contains on-board current-mode control circuitry which allows the user to adjust the loop gain of the loop for optimal performance.

The DC1759A is designed to demonstrate the features and performance of the LTC3789-1 synchronous controllers for DC/DC and AC/DC off-line SMPS applications. It is ideal for applications that require high-efficiency and tightly controlled performance such as consumer, industrial, networking and other applications. Its adjustable current limit settings allow for increased design flexibility for different loads and conditions. With its comprehensive range of features and its adjustable DC input stage, it is an ideal platform for evaluating a full range of DC/DC and AC/DC power supplies.
