DC701A is an evaluation board that is part of a series of evaluation boards that are designed for direct current (DC) to DC and alternating current (AC) to DC switch-mode power supplies (SMPS). DC701A is specifically designed to evaluate the performance of a range of switching regulators and switching converters. As such, DC701A can be used to study the operation of various types of DC-DC converters including buck, boost, buck-boost, and flyback topologies. DC701A can also be used to evaluate AC-DC solutions, including full-wave bridge and resistor-capacitor (RC) circuits. Additionally, DC701A is suitable for evaluating low-side SMPSs up to 5A and high-side SMPSs up to 3.3A.

DC701A is a full-bridge DC-DC Evaluation Board. It supports multiple topologies including buck, boost, buck-boost, and flyback topologies. The evaluation board features a user-defined output voltage range of up to 60V and a wide-range of input voltage range of up to 300V. The evaluation board has a digital interface for programming and controlling the device via an I2C bus, and also includes a LED display for displaying the current settings and parameters. It provides a graphical user interface for programming and configuration, and includes a high-speed component testing capability. The evaluation board also includes a monitoring and control feature to monitor the external environment.

The working principle of DC701A is based on the principle of switch-mode power supplies (SMPS). DC-DC converters use switch-mode power supplies to convert direct current (DC) to a desired voltage. The conversion from DC to AC is done by switching the current flow between capacitors and inductors. During each cycle, the switching frequency is increased, leading to a more stable output voltage. By controlling the switching frequency, the DC-DC converters can provide stable DC output and reduce energy loss in the conversion process. With AC-DC solutions, the rectification of the alternating current (AC) is done by diodes, transistors, and capacitors.

DC701A uses a two-stage power conversion process. In the first stage, the device generates an average forward voltage (VF) by using MOSFETs, which in turn is converted to a desired output voltage (VOUT) through a process of pulse-width modulation (PWM). The PWM technique is used to increase/decrease the amplitude of the output voltage. In the second stage, the device is controlled by a SMbus interface to adjust the output voltage. The SMbus provides the communication between the host and the device. In addition, the DC701A board has an output current limiting function, output voltage measurement, load switch control, over-voltage protection, and current-sensing capability.

The DC701A Evaluation Board is a powerful tool for the design and testing of DC-DC and AC-DC switch-mode power supplies. It provides an easy-to-use interface and capability for testing the performance of different topologies and the study of power conversion principles. It also provides a wide range of input and output voltage range and a digital interface for programming and controlling the device. Additionally, the evaluation board has multiple monitoring and protection features to ensure safe operation.
