Thermistors are temperature sensors that employ a semiconductor material and its ability to change its resistance with temperature. NTC (negative temperature coefficient) thermistors are thermistors that decrease in resistance with an increase in temperature. As temperature rises, the resistance of these thermistors drops in a predictable and highly repeatable fashion.

DC95F202WN is a NTC thermistor specifically designed for temperature measurement. The component features a low temperature coefficient of resistance, low thermal time constant, and robust materials and construction. The probe is composed of a series of small beads, sealed in a stainless steel, that is hermetically sealed and offers a varied set of electrical connection options.

Application Field

DC95F202WN was designed with the measure of the human body temperature in thermometer applications in mind. It is indispensable in medical applications, such as ambulatory systems Pc Health, Pulse Oximeters, and Heart Rate Monitor in particular. Also suitable in higher temperature sensing applications such as home appliances, digital thermometers and thermal management.

Working Principle

The thermistor DC95F202WN has an NTC curve that reveals its main feature – a drop in resistance as temperature increases. It is based on the semiconductor properties of the ceramic material used to construct it. The thermistor is composed of a very small element of ceramic material sealed in a stainless steel case. This special material acts as a semiconductor – meaning it conducts electricity but somewhat restricts it depending on the resistance value. When the temperature rises, the resistance of the semiconductor material decreases and when the temperature decreases, its resistance increases.

The thermistor DC95F202WN is a multi-point graph thermistor. The NTC characteristic curve of the thermistor is determined by the combination of several active points connected by segments or lines. Having multiple points gives more precise temperature responses, shorter thermal time constants and a better repeatability. The semiconductor element of the thermistor is attached to a solid platinum conductor in the housing. The conductor is hermetically sealed in order to secure the thermistor’s reliability and stability.
