Resistor Networks, ArraysDFNA5000AT5 is a dynamic resistor network concept which allows users to tailor high current system designs to their specific needs. This network maximizes both flexibility and performance across broad frequency ranges.Application FieldDFNA5000AT5 is suitable for a broad range of frequency applications, but is particularly well-suited for applications such as electronic measurement instruments, audio systems, and power oscilloscopes. It is perfectly designed to offer a high power/impedance ratio, and is highly efficient for impedance matching in critical RF, high-current applications.Working PrincipleDFNA5000AT5 resistor networks are based on a simple principle: The resistance of each path is independently adjusted in order to obtain the desired impedance. This is accomplished through variable resistor elements, one for each path, which can be manually adjusted. The adjustment is not limited to the visible resistor elements, but also extends to control elements and circuitry buried inside the network.The networks are designed to emulate a continuous range of resistances over a broad spectrum of frequencies. Due to its high-power capabilities, this network is ideal for applications requiring high-currents at low impedance, or low-currents with higher impedances.The network design varies depending on the application requirements. Generally speaking, it consists of three or more variable resistor elements connected in either a parallel or series configuration. Each element is adjusted to the desired resistance value in order to achieve the desired overall impedance.The DFNA5000AT5 network is generally configured to provide resistance values from 0.1 ohm to 1,000 ohms or more over simple as well as complex frequency ranges. This flexibility allows designers to more easily tailor the network to their specific requirements.The networks are available in a variety of packages and form factors depending on the application requirements. Common packages include surface mount, through hole, and through-panel versions.User control over the resistor elements can either be manual, via on-board switches, or automated via external logic. When configured for manual control, the adjustable elements can be easily combined to provide a virtually endless range of impedances, even in non-binary steps.When automated control is configured, external logic takes over the regulation of the resistors. The user can then control either the entire network or individual elements via a digital interface or microcontroller.The DFNA5000AT5 series networks are highly versatile and can be integrated with other types of passive components such as capacitors, inductors, and bridges to create filters, power networks, and other complex networks.The networks are designed for high-performance applications and feature high-accuracy and high-endurance characteristics which make them ideal for deployment in critical applications. Other features such as low noise and low drift further increase their value in the marketplace.
