DK-LM3S9B96 is an evaluation board based on the Stellaris® LM3S9B96 microcontroller (MCU) produced by Texas Instruments®. This board allows designers to evaluate and develop applications based on the LM3S microcontroller family. This board is equipped with wide range of features secondary to its microcontroller like USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, switches, an LCD display, and several other components. The LM3S9B96 microcontroller is part of the Stellaris microcontroller family coming in an LQFP-80 package. It has a wide range of applications spanning from small and cost sensitive, consumer to industrial/medical applications such as general-purpose low-power embedded control and communications based on the ARM Cortex?-M3 core, including automotive. It has 32KB of ROM, 16KB of SRAM and 12KB of integrated SRAM.The working principle of DK-LM3S9B96 is based on the Stellaris microcontroller family which includes the ARM Cortex?-M3, a 32-bit microcontroller core. This core is designed to simultaneously execute multiple software threads without the need for complex processor states. This makes it more efficient for embedded applications which require multitasking. The system is powered by an elemental voltage of 3.3V and it provides an up to 25 MHz external clock input frequency. The setup of the board allows the designer to quickly begin without any prior knowledge of the MCU. All necessary drivers and software required to run the board are provided in the DK-LM3S9B96 package. The board includes features like two USB2.0 ports, an Ethernet port, an LCD display, a two-pin expansion header, two potentiometers, an astronomical clock, up to four push-buttons, one LED, a debug serial port connector and a four-pin FFC connector. It also contains the standard peripherals of the microcontroller, such as SPI, UART, I2C and a range of timers and counters. The Stellaris software development kit (SDK), which includes the driver library, is a suitable tool for software development and system debugging of the DK-LM3S9B96. The SDK supports the ARM RH850, ARM Cortex?-M3 and ARM Cortex?-M4 cores as well as the Texas Instruments AM335x family of microcontrollers. With these components the DK-LM3S9B96 can be used in various embedded projects. It is suitable for projects requiring low power consumption, high performance, ease of use and support of the ARM Cortex?-M3 family of microcontrollers. It can be used in small-medium embedded control systems, consumer electronic and automotive applications. The board is equipped with an extensive set of features and allows designers to try out different applications with the microcontroller. The DK-LM3S9B96 can be used in simple embedded systems which require high performance, low power consumption, support for the ARM Cortex?-M3 family of microcontrollers and security features like multi-tenancy, dynamic authentication and non-intrusive debugging. It is also suitable for developing applications for the Internet of Things (IoT), where it can be used to collect data, store and process it, and communicate the results with other systems. In conclusion, the DK-LM3S9B96 is a sophisticated implementation of Texas Instruments’ LM3S microcontroller featuring a wide range of features to aid designers in developing embedded projects. Its microcontroller, which is part of the ARM Cortex?-M3 family, provides fast execution speed and high performance even in small power consumption. The board is equipped with necessary drivers and software to quickly get started on the project. DK-LM3S9B96 can be used in various embedded applications such as automotive, consumer electronics and control systems.
