Application Field

The DLPT05W-7 is designed to protect sensitive electronic components from overvoltage and current transients. It is widely used for overvoltage protection in telecommunication, computer, industrial control, electronic home appliance, and automotive applications. The device is used to protect the data lines in Ethernet applications, providing IEC 61000-4-2 ESD protection (level 4 at 15 kV contact) and IEC 61000-4-5 surge protection up to 12 A.

Working Principle

The DLPT05W-7 is a unidirectional TVS diode. It is constructed of a substrate, a PN junction, and a series of other elements. The PN junction is formed by combining a heavily doped N-type semiconductor material and a lightly doped P-type semiconductor material. This junction is also the primary element of the DLPT05W-7 that performs voltage, current and ESD protection.

As the polarity of the voltage across the device increases, the PN junction breaks down and current flows from anode to cathode. This breakdown protection limits the voltage and current across the device, thus protecting the components in the system. The PN junction is also used as a Zener diode for ESD protection. When the voltage exceeds a certain threshold, the breakdown voltage of the PN junction, current starts to flow from the anode to the cathode to dissipate the energy and protect against ESD damage.
