Logic - Flip Flops
A DM74AS74N is an asynchronous, dual D-type flip-flop which utilizes the standard TTL logic family. It contains 2 D flip-flops and is used primarily as a logic storage device. As a logic storage device it can be used to store a binary value, with each of the two outputs representing one bit of information in a binary code.
The DM74AS74N is designed to operate with either dual (logic 0 or logic 1) or single (logic 0 or logic 1) input control. Input 0 is the “set-up” input, while input 1 is the “clear-down” input. The output of the flip-flop is the inverse of the state of the input. That is, if the input is low (logic 0), the output will be high (logic 1). Conversely, if the input is high (logic 1), the output will be low (logic 0).
The flip-flop can be used for the implementation of synchronous counters, binary counters and other logic applications. The device\'s asynchronous operation allows it to be used for the temporary storage of data during data transfer between two or more units, or for the implementation of simple timing circuits.
