The DM74123N is a part of the popular 7400-series of logic ICs and is classified as a logic multivibrator. It has two individual oscillating Flip-Flop circuits, which are linked together to within one package, and which can be used to create a variety of delay, pulse, or oscillator circuits.
This versatility has earned the DM74123N special recognition amongst microcontroller engineers, electrical engineers and hobbyists who appreciate its cost-effectiveness and wide range of applications. The DM74123N contains both flip-flops with positive and iactive-high reset input. In this mode, the time delay between the trigger pulse and the output pulse can be adjusted and is dependant on the external resistor and/or capacitor connected to the device.
In addition, the DM74123N can serve as a timer where it can be configured to produce a time delay that can be manually adjusted. This is usually done by connecting an externally variable resistor to the device, allowing users to fine-tune the time delay according to their needs. This can be used for various applications such as indicating the remaining time during a cooking process (in a microwave oven), or as an alarm or reminder (in a clock radio).
