The DM74AS74SJX contains two individual negative-edge-triggered flip-flops. Each flip-flop can be setup to either positive-edge-triggered or negative-edge- triggered operation. When used as positive-edge-triggered devices, the flip-flops are written by the rising edge of the clock, CLK, when CP (clock enable) is low. When used as negative-edge-triggered devices, flip-flops are written by the falling edge of CLK when CP (clock enable) is low. These flip-flops feature a lock-up state which prevents propogation of false signals on CP. During lock-up, the output of the flip-flop is not affected by the state of CP.
The DM74AS74SJX is an extremely versatile and robust set of integrated devices. Their dual-edge-triggering capability makes them ideal for use in asynchronous systems, such as FIFO\'s and digital audio applications. In addition, their low-power operation and high-speed operation make them a great choice for low-power, high-speed digital systems. In addition to the applications noted above, the DM74AS74SJX can be used for a multitude of other digital systems, such as control logic, data buffering and conversion, and multi-rate processing. The DM74AS74SJX is available in both an 8-pin DIP and a standard 44-pin SMT package.
The DM74AS74SJX consists of two flip-flops as well as a Clock Enable (CP) pin. The Clock Enable pin is used to control the edge-triggered transition of the flip-flops. A low level on the CP pin indicates that the device should operate in either positive- edge-triggered or negative-edge-triggered mode. A high level indicates the device should operate in its lock-up mode. The two flip-flops in the DM74AS74SJX share the same clock and clock enable signals, meaning that the transition of one flip-flop is dependent on the transition of the other.
