The DMV1500RF from Diodes Incorporated is a high-power monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) stabilized amplifier for use in a wide range of 5GHz to 8GHz frequency applications. This device is designed to be used in a variety of applications including base station amplifiers, radio frequency (RF) amplifiers, radio transmitters, and amplifiers. It has a built-in power control circuit that enables accurate, repeatable, stable power output control. The DMV1500RF is fabricated using the latest 0.25μm GaAs PHEMT process and uses a patented low noise, high gain design architecture. It regulates the output power in the range of 30dBm to 43 dBm, with a typical gain of 19 dB and a total power gain of 43 dB. It also has a noise figure of 5.5 dB and a VSWR over the frequency range of 8GHz. The operation of the DMV1500RF is based on a low noise high gain design that offers a low noise performance and requires only two external resistor components for bias tuning.

The DMV1500RF has two external-terminal voltage regulators that are used for bias control. These regulators allow for adjustment of the quiescent bias current and dynamic bias current of the internal transistors. With the adjustable bias, the device can achieve stable operation and achieve optimal performance with minimal effort. The bias points are adjustable from 15mA to 26mA and the quiescent bias point is adjustable from 0mA to 40mA. Additionally, the device has a dynamic bias current limit control. This control limits the dynamic current to 30mA, thus providing greater reliability, lower power dissipation and improved protection against current overloads.

The DMV1500RF\'s operating temperature range is -55°C to +125°C. The device has an internal temperature sensor, with thermal shutdown at a temperature of 130°C, to protect the device from thermal damage. Furthermore, the device has over-power protection and ESD protection, with an ESD rating of 1kV. The power consumption of the device is 8W maximum.

The typical application circuit of the DMV1500RF is shown in Figure 1. The circuit consists of a 12V power supply, two external resistor components for stabilizing bias and a heat sink for thermal management. The function of the bias resistor is to provide an adjustable quiescent current over which the device can operate. With the adjustment of the bias, the device can achieve the desired power output. The heat sink is used to ensure proper thermal management of the amplifier.
