DRV2605LDGST is a dedicated haptics driver IC designed for driving both ERM (Eccentric Rotating Mass actuator) and LRA (Linear Resonance Actuator). Developed to provide an easier, simplier and cost effective solution in haptics design, DRV2605LDGST can drive haptic actuators using signals introced by microcontroller or LRA gauge. It operates either in open loop (voltage-controlled) or closed loop (force-feedback) modes.

DRV2605LDGST has three main mode of operations on how to drive the actuator: open loop, voltage mode; closed loop, sensing actuator current; and close loop, sensing voltage. Open loop mode is used with the external PWM drive and the feedback input is left open so it is configured to operate without feedback of the actuator\'s behavior. Voltage mode utilizes the external PWM drive with the feedback input configured as voltage to enable sensing motion of the actuator using the Haptic Guidance™ safety system.In closed loop, sensing current configuration, the external PWM drive is left open so DRV2605LDGST can sense the current at the actuator and the feedback input is configured to sense the sensed current. Using this configuration, the IC feedbacks the sensed current to the haptic processor for further control. Finally, in closed loop, sensing voltage configuration; the external PWM drive and the feedback input is configured to sense the voltage developed by the load inertia on the actuator. This is used to monitor motion and resonance characteristics of the haptic actuator so corrections can be made when needed.
DRV2605LDGST also offers improved sensing resolution of up to 0.4mA, a maximum rated output current of up to 2.2A, a low turn on/off damping factor of 0.5V and embedded Open Loop response tables. The device includes diagnostic pins for current sensing and a Dual-PWM full-bridge driver with separate Power Gating. While its tiny size makes it ideal for space prone applications.
