The DS1232 is a series of integrated supervisory circuits designed to monitor power supplied by an external source that is switched by a digital control signal for microprocessors, memories, and other logic devices. This device replaces manual reset circuitry and a discrete control signal for safe initiation and power-up sequencing of multiple circuits. It offers user adjustable reset delays, reset pulse widths, and power-on delay circuits. It monitors power supply voltage, temperature, and even AC power for system protection and reset. With its advanced design, it provides low power consumption, improved frequent reset accuracy, and low cost.

The DS1232 is a microcomputer supervisory circuit built with CMOS technology that contains reset circuitry, an adjustable power-on delay circuit, and a VDD monitoring circuit. It uses an externally monitored voltage and an optional normally open reset input to generate reset signals. When the voltage of the monitored supply drops below the user specified reset threshold voltage, or the reset input signal is detected, the reset circuit generates a reset pulse with a width of typically 200ms. It also has a power-on reset with a user adjustable delay time of up to 20 seconds.

The DS1232 has two operation modes. In the pulse reset mode, the DS1232 is reset each time the monitored voltage drops below the reset threshold voltage. In the latched mode, the DS1232 is reset triggered by a reset signal, and will latch low until power is removed and reapplied.

The DS1232 has an adjustable reset/power-on threshold voltage, which is controlled by an external resistor divider. The reset pulse width is user adjustable by changing the on-board capacitor value. Additionally, the reset time can be set to any value up to 20 seconds with a single external resistor. The device also has a VDD monitor with three thresholds.

The DS1232 is suitable for use in applications where reliable initiation of multiple power supplies is necessary. The device is available in both 8-pin PDIP and 8-pin SOIC packages and can operate from -40 up to 125°C.
