The DS1302Z+T&R is a real-time clock/calendar (RTCC) designed to provide accurate timekeeping and date information to allow microcontrollers to properly keep track of time and date. It is versatile and can be used in many applications such as embedded systems, automation systems and medical device. The DS1302Z+T&R is a highly integrated device that includes a 32.768 kHz temperature compensating crystal oscillator, along with nonvolatile time and date memory, providing time and date information for up to 21 years.
The DS1302Z+T&R is a 6-pin device, providing a single I2C-bus when operating in I2C mode with up to 100kHz data transfer rate. The circuit contains a 32.768 kHz temperature-compensated crystal oscillator to provide a high accurate time-keeping solution with a accuracy of ±0.5 seconds per day at 25°C and an impressive 0.2ppm accuracy over a wide -40°C to 85°C temperature range.
The DS1302Z+T&R offers three operating modes: I2C, SPI and SPI Plus. The SPI and SPI Plus modes allow up to 10MHz data rate on both master and slave sides and is compatible with standard SPI devices. The I2C modeprovides higher potential applications as it is compatible with a wide variety of microcontrollers.
The DS1302Z+T&R supports various time formats such as 24-hour or 12-hour format, Military time or Standard time, and also offers Leap Year calibration for years between 2000 and 2099. A unique feature of the DS1302Z+T&R is its ability to operate with an external battery, allowing greater flexibility in applications.
The DS1302Z+T&R provides several features such as temperature compensation circuit, an I²C serial interface, a burst mode, a battery switchover option, power management, user-selectable alarm level, time accuracy up to ±1 min. per month and user-programmable time and date. The DS1302Z+T&Rs also have a battery-backed RAM and are are also capable of withstanding rough environmental conditions such as extreme temperature, humidity and vibration. Further, the DS1302Z+T&Rs are offered in a range of options such as standard and low power versions, extended temperature range and extended battery life.
The time can be read, written and set according to user requirements and can be used to measure time intervals. The time and date are provided internally by 24-bit registers which are set via I2C commands. The registers can be set up to hold minutes, hours, days and up to 32-bit of user data, enabling 32-bit event counters, alarms and data logging applications. Additionally, an alarm output can also be generated to indicate an event.
