The DS1314S-2+ is a member of Maxim’s family of Serial Presence Detect (SPD) devices designed to read and store parameters that describe the physical and electrical characteristics of memory modules. The primary application field of the DS1314S-2+ is the memory controller for systems demanding high-speed access and operation, such as workstations, servers and Personal Computers.

The SPD devices are used to provide important data about the module type, size, and speed. The information stored in an SPD includes the module’s serial and part numbers, configuration type (unbuffered, registered, or ECC), DIMM type (SDRAM, RDRAM, DDR, DDR-2, etc.), CAS latency and other timing parameters, and module size in megabits or megabytes. This mode requires manual device configuration to ensure the write page address is consistent with the layout of the parameter data. The device then reads the SPD data one page at a time, checks the data integrity, and writes the data back to the storage area.

The DS1314S-2+ has two power supplies: a main supply (VCC) and a low-voltage supply (VCCL) for the EEPROM. The device operates over a wide range of voltages and supports low current consumption for extended battery life. It is compliant with the JEDEC and Intel standards for SPD devices and is certified for operation at temperatures between 0°C and 70°C.
