The DS1816-5 is an integrated circuit belonging to the PMIC – Supervisors family.

This device is especially suitable for use in telecom applications such as cellular base stations and DECT terminals, as well as embedded applications such as home automation/security, automotive and intelligent instrumentation. The DS1816-5 can be used as a supervisor for monitoring power supply voltages and providing fail-safe reset logic for microprocessors and other digital integrated circuits.

The DS1816-5 provides an adjustable reset output voltage on two independent outputs, labeled RESET P and RESET N. The actual reset threshold voltages are user-programmable, allowing the user to optimally tune the IC to meet their particular system requirements. The reset circuit can be configured to set the output threshold voltages anywhere between 1.5V and 5.5V. An internal temperature light detector can be used to reduce the threshold voltage to as low as 1.25V or as high as 4V.

The DS1816-5 provides a wide range of features designed to ensure efficient and safe operation. These include a bandgap reference to accurately maintain the reset threshold voltage with temperature, an internal protection circuit to prevent device overloading and user-adjustable fault detection and reset delay times.

The device also includes an any-rate gain selector for custom settings of reset input voltage. The circuit features a selectable reset active-low/active-high output option, with dedicated pins for programming the logic level for both reset outputs. The DS1816-5 provides an edge-sensitive manual reset input pin and an active-low inhibit pin, both of which are used to manually control the reset outputs. The device also includes an adjustable power-fail input pin and an active-low power-good output.

The DS1816-5 has a wide power supply operating range: 2.7V to 5.5V and comes in an 8-lead SOIC package. The DS1816-5 also has a thermal shutdown feature which, if triggered, will turn off the reset output until the temperature is within a safe, normal operating range.
