The DS1817R-20/T&R is a small form factor, low-power PMIC - Supervisor that is highly flexible for system-level power optimization. Working Principle:

The DS1817R-20/T&R is based on a multi-channel circuit topology. The device has a main Supervisory circuit and an integrated LDO regulator. Events detected by the Supervisory circuit are indicated through a control register. Events sensed by the integrated LDO regulator are also indicated by a control register.

The Supervisory circuit features a monitoring circuit and a key-lock circuit. Each channel in the monitoring circuit is connected to a single integrated LDO Regulator. The key-lock circuit is a digital circuit that is used to detect and issue power-on reset (POR) signals. It is also used to detect digital key-lock events, such as system enable or disable, critical protection enable and disable, etc. When one of these events is detected, it will broadcasted an interrupt to the microcontroller and can be enabled/disabled depending on the settings of the control registers bits.

The LDO Regulator features a digitally programmable output voltage, current, and temperature protection. It has several power sources available, including Connector Power and Battery backup supplies, to provide uninterrupted power supply to the system even during an input power failure. The other power sources load power from the main channel, such as the battery supply, to provide an additional power backup for the critical components in the system. Also, the device has an adjustable power switch capacity, allowing system optimization for improved performance and/or power savings.
