Working Principle

The reset pin is monitored by the DS1831+, and if the voltage falls out of the specified range for an adjustable period, an active low reset is asserted and the system is reset. This prevents potentially hazardous situations such as incorrect data being written to non-volatile memory or other undesired system operations. When the power supply returns to the specified range, the reset is negated and the system can resume normal operations. In addition, the reset pin can be used to filter out short duration power transients, as well as to provide manual reset capability.
