Introduction to DS1831C
The DS1831C is a high-accuracy, programmable micropower supervisor IC. It is designed to provide advanced power-on reset, system monitoring and power management features in a single precision package. The DS1831C provides system monitor and reset timer functions as well as overvoltage and undervoltage system ints and status outputs. DS1831C features operating supply voltage range of 0.9V to 5.5V, and a wide range of temperature operating of -40°C to 85°C for high reliability and durability in any environment.

Working Principle
The DS1831C works by sensing the system supply voltage (VCC) and monitoring the VCC against user-specified upper and lower voltage thresholds. It also has a Power-On-Reset logic that monitors system operation time and ensures proper startup. An independent delay timer allows selectable reset pulse duration.
When VCC is higher than the upper voltage threshold, the undervoltage (UV) pin will be asserted. When VCC is lower than the lower voltage threshold, the overvoltage (OV) pin will be asserted. The OV and UV pins are open-drain, and can be wired to a common bus. Each pin can be used as a status output, indicating whether the input voltage is above or below the programmed threshold.
The Power-On-Reset (POR) logic monitors the system operation time. After power is applied, the POR logic will assert a reset pulse when the elapsed time is equal or greater than the programmed delay time. The POR pin is an open-drain output that will remain low until the delay timer timer has expired.
The DS1831C also contains an adjustable power source and a low drop-out (LDO) circuit. The adjustable power source is a programmable voltage source that can supply up to 100 mA and can be used as an auxiliary power supply for powering additional components. The LDO supplies up to 50 mA and can be used for supplying lower power requirements.
In addition to all these features, the DS1831C also integrates an on-chip watchdog timer, power-on reset, battery-backed SRAM, and a temperature sensor. The watchdog timer can be externally triggered to reset the system if no user interaction is required. The power-on reset logic is designed to monitor the system and provide a reset pulse if the onboard timer has expired.
