The DS1836B-5 is a low-cost, highly reliable supervisor and reset/power-on reset integrated circuits from Maxim Integrated. It provides an active-high reset output and a three-state power-on reset (POR) output. The POR feature monitors supply voltage for undervoltage, overtemperature, and overtemperature fault conditions, and provides a three-state signal: power “on,” reset “off,” and reset “on.”

The integrated circuit also provides a dedicated fault input (NOT) which when activated, disables both outputs; that is, it will be low regardless of the supply voltage or temperature conditions. Furthermore, the DS1836B-5 integrates several additional features. It includes an integrated voltage regulator (5 V) for providing regulated power to the system, power sequencing to control the order of components that turn on, adjustable alarm thresholds for monitoring power-on and power-off voltages, and a power up/down slew rate for controlling power-up/down times. Other features include adjustable reset time-out and adjustable reset pulse-width.

In terms of accuracy, the DS1836B-5 has excellent open-drain RESET and POR outputs which are accurate to ± 10 mV or 4% (whichever is greater) over a supply voltage range of 3V to 5.5V and a temperature range of -40 degrees to +85 degrees Celsius. Equally impressive is the fact that the accuracy of the reset threshold voltages is also excellent, with only ± 8 mV or 4% (whichever is greater) tolerance over the 3V to 5.5V supply voltage range and a temperature range of -40 degrees to +85 degrees Celsius. In summary, the DS1836B-5 is an integrated circuit which provides reliable, cost-effective reset capabilities for a variety of power management applications.
