DS21352G Application Field and Working Principle
The DS21352G is an advanced Gigabit Ethernet transceiver designed for use in both 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX/1000BASE-T networks. It is designed to support the physical layer functions of IEEE 802.3 Ethernet systems and to meet auto-negotiation and Ethernet PHY standards. The DS21352G features a fully integrated multi-rate signaling and auto-negotiation system, making the device capable of reliable high-speed operation over both copper and fiber optic media. The DS21352G contains four essential sub components; a loopback detector, a broadcast generator, a MAC driver and a physical layer interface.The loopback detector is responsible for verifying the integrity of the link by detecting when the sent and received signals are the same. The broadcast generator sends out pre-defined Ethernet packets periodically which can be issued from the MAC address associated to the device. The MAC driver serves as an interface between the Ethernet host processor and the media and is responsible for operating the device and for processing the data that is sent and received across the media. Lastly, the physical layer interface is responsible for encoding and decoding the signals that are sent and received through the media. The architecture of the DS21352G device is optimized for Ethernet-based communication, and it supports a maximum data rate of 1000 Mbps. Furthermore, the device is equipped with a media independent interface (MII) which is used to configure the device, monitor its status and transmit/receive data frames to and from the MAC. The device includes an on-chip buffer memory that enables it to store frames that are received over the media, thereby enabling the host processor to access them when needed.Conclusion
