Working Principle of DS21610SN

The DS21610SN is based on DSC’s 5th generation, low-skew clock generator technology. It requires only a single reference input frequency of 10MHz or 19.2MHz to provide two sets of four low-skew clock outputs at frequencies of up to 200MHz.

DS21610SN also includes a programmable Charge Pump (CP). The CP and controlling Fractional-N synthesis engine are used to generate the 200MHz clock and the complementary CLKOUTB outputs. Internal divide-by-1000 blocks are used to divide the input reference frequency and drives the CP to provide the output clocks.

Besides, the CP can also operate in Integer-N mode. In this mode, the internal dividers are disabled and the CP output frequency is determined by the frequency of the reference clock. This allows the generation of multiple Clock/Timing output frequencies from the same reference input, which is useful for PLLs applications.

Additionally, the allowable phase offset of the output clocks can be set by the Clock Step Size setting. The step size is adjustable from 0.1 to 4ns, allowing designers to generate precise clock signals for their applications. Furthermore, it also supports frequency offset mode when the output buffers are ganged together. This can also be used to improve the accuracy of the output clock signals.
