The DS2180A+ is an IC (Integrated Circuit) that is utilized in equipment requiring data communications over telephone lines. The DS2180A+ uses two tones: a high frequency Tone A and a low frequency Tone B. The DS2180A+ also can detect and respond to certain "answer tones" from the remote modem. Once the negotiation process is complete and the modems have agreed on the required settings, the data transfer can begin. The transceiver within the DS2180A+ is used to amplify and demodulate the received data, and then convolute it into serial data for communication to the microcontroller. The controller can then take the necessary action based on the data received.
In addition to data modem support, other functions of the DS2180A+ include call progress detection, voice telephony support, acoustic and electrical echo cancellation and Audio-FAX support. The device also integrates a power down mode, advanced speakerphone circuitry and a complementary input/output port. It is manufactured in either a 44-pin LQFP or a 48-pin EBQFP package.
