The DS2186S is a multi-protocol transceiver device that combines a transmitter, receiver and physical layer (PHY) in a single package, making communication possible between two or more communication networks. As this device supports several communication protocols, it can work in half-duplex and full-duplex modes. When it comes to the half-duplex mode, it enables communication between two systems using the same data rate with the same communication protocol. In full-duplex mode, two systems can communicate using different data rates and communication protocols. This device also supports sleep or ‘listen before talk’ mode, allowing the receiver to decide when to start the transmission based on the sleeping condition of the transmitter. The DS2186S works by transmitting and receiving data packets over the physical layer. At the physical layer, the data bits are encoded by the transmitter, moved through the medium and then decoded by the receiver. The data is transferred in a binary form, and different parts of the packet have different information such as packet length, command code, standard identifiers and cyclic redundancy check (CRC).The transmitter and the receiver are connected to the physical layer using a digital serial channel with the transmitter connected to the receiver. The physical layer provides electrical isolation and is used for communication between the two systems without interference. The transmitter provides the input data and converts it into a serial bit stream and sends it to the receiver through the physical layer.
