The DS4000ECN/WBGA is a programmable timing and oscillator from Texas Instruments. It is part of the Clock/Timing family, under the Programmable Timers and Oscillators category. The product is engineered for use in device or system level timing applications and is said to be variously adaptable in terms of use.

The main features of the DS4000ECN/WBGA make it a particularly desirable option for many users. For starters, it has a frequency range of about 1 kHz to 100 MHz. The signal source control the signal output from the VCO, and this process of controlling signal source with signal output is known as feedback.

The signal output from the VCO is then converted to an analog frequency signal output. This signal is then further amplified into a digital frequency output through the device’s clock circuitry. The digital output is used to control the frequency of the signal source, and thus regulates the VCO.

The DS4000ECN/WBGA must be programmed to accurately calculate the desired frequency output, and this is done by programming the device with the help of special software.
