The ability to easily select different frequencies ensures system flexibility in response to manufacturing down-sizing and wide spread design requirements.This oscillator can be used in various applications such as general timing, frequency translation and generation, low noise clock source for sensitive analog or digital systems, audible alarms, high frequency clock synthesizer, local oscillator applications, among others.The operating principle is simple and includes components such as 1) Programmable clock oscillator (PCO) integrated circuit chip; 2) on-board filter, resistor and capacitor components; and 3) control lines connecting the on-board components to the PCO in the oscillator. The PCO integrated circuit brings most of the advantages to the oscillator. It is mainly characterized by its low power consumption, small size, low cost and wide operating temperature range. The PCO also stores its configuration settings in non-volatile memory.The on-board filter, resistor and capacitor components are designed to ensure that the required frequency is outputted as desired. These components will produce the necessary filtering effect to ensure that the frequency output is stable, with minimal noise and jitter. Additionally, the control lines connecting the on-board components to the PCO enables each function to be configured. This is one of the advantages of the pin-configurable oscillators.
