Pin Configurable/Selectable Oscillators are unlike traditional oscillators, which tend to be square-wave crystals, and are instead highly configurable pieces of electronics which allow for all kinds of customization. The DSC2311KI1-R0014T Pin Configurable/Selectable Oscillator is a great example of this type of device.

This oscillator is specifically designed to meet the needs of high-speed, high-frequency, and high-accuracy applications. It is packaged in a 5mm x 3 mm, 14-lead TSSOP package, and operates over a temperature range of -40℃ to +125℃.

The oscillator has two outputs, one which is adjustable between 1MHz and 33MHz, and the other which has fixed frequencies of 19.44MHz or 38.88MHz. The adjustable output is programmable by using a pin configuration while the frequency of the fixed output is determined by the mode pin.

The DSC2311KI1-R0014T is designed with a number of features intended to minimize power consumption and enhance the accuracy of the signals that it generates. The frequency accuracy of the adjustable output is 0.2%, the jitter is less than 1ps at 10KHz, and the phase noise is better than -120dBc/Hz at 100KHz offset.

The low phase-noise, the wide range of frequencies available, the adjustable outputs and the integrated temperature compensation make this pin configurable/selectable oscillator the perfect choice for applications such as embedded systems, digital audio and video devices, network systems, termination devices and medical instruments.

In terms of power consumption, the DSC2311KI1-R0014T offers an extremely efficient design, with very low power consumption. The oscillator can operate in either a standard operating mode, or a low power operating mode, in which case, the power consumption can be as low as 10mW in the standard operating mode, and 0.2mW in the low power mode. This allows it to be used in even the most power-sensitive applications.

In terms of its working principle, this pin configurable/selectable oscillator is based on the concept of resonant frequency. The frequency of the oscillator is determined by the combination of two capacitors and two inductors that make up the resonator. The capacitors and inductors are chosen such that they resonate at the desired frequency when the oscillator is powered. This frequency can be controlled by adjusting the output capacitor to generate the desired frequency.
