Transil or Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diodes are one of the most widely used components in electronic circuits. They provide protection against voltage transients, ESD (electro-static discharge) and other over-voltage threats. DSiLC6-4SC6 is a TVS diode with a wide range of applications and has various advantages over other TVS diodes.

DSiLC6-4SC6 is a Uni-Directional Automotive Grade TVS diode. It is designed for automotive and industrial applications. The diode is compliant with the AEC-Q101 standard and is manufactured in a SOD-323 package. DSiLC6-4SC6 has a peak reverse power of 5 Watts and a peak reverse voltage of 6 Volts. It is able to withstand a maximum surge energy of 25J and has a clamping voltage of 13.6 Volts. The operating temperature range of the diode is -40°C to +125°C.

It is mainly used to protect circuits from electrical and ESD transients, as well as voltage transient spikes generated by load switching transients, inductive switching loads, and lightning surges. DSiLC6-4SC6 can also be used in battery isolation, hot switching and in series protection for the prevention of IC from electro-static destructions. This diode also offers a low forward voltage drop of 0.65V, providing superior ESD protection without the requirement of external components, such as filters or other devices.

The working principle of the DSiLC6-4SC6 is not complicated and can be understood quite easily. When the voltage across the diode exceeds its peak reverse voltage, the diode becomes forward biased and it starts conducting current through it. This process reduces the voltage across the device and the current starts flowing. As the current increases, the voltage across the diode rises until it reaches its peak reverse voltage level, which then limits the current flow. Once the voltage across the diode reaches its peak reverse voltage, it ceases conducting current and the electricity is now dissipated within the diode.
