Applications of the DST1045S Diode

Working Principle of the DST1045S

The DST1045S functions when an AC or DC current flows through the device. This current then passes through two oppositely polarized electrodes, referred to as the anode and cathode, where it is directed towards the cathode to provide a voltage drop of about 0.7 volts .

The DST1045S has two principal modes of operation: forward bias and reverse bias. When switched to forward bias, current flows primarily from the anode to the cathode due to the amount of voltage applied to the anode being greater than the voltage at the cathode. In this mode, the diode is said to be in the “on” position. When the voltage at the anode is lower than that of the cathode, the diode is blocked, and no current can pass; this is known as the reverse bias mode. In this case, the diode is said to be in the “off” position.

In forward bias, the voltage drop of the DST1045S is around 0.7 volts, and in reverse bias the voltage drop is much lesser. This is due to the voltage drop of the diode, which is caused by the presence of negative-electron holes which hold some of the current flow. The presence of these negative-electron holes is what causes the voltage drop of the DST1045s.
