Working Principle

E6C3-AG5C-C 256P/R 1M encoder is based on optical technologies, utilizes a light source and a photosensor to generate electrical pulses when the encoder is rotated. The light source is usually an infrared LED or laser, which is directed to a code wheel. This code wheel can either have a translucent code disc or a solid code disc with a pattern of opaque and transparent sections. The sensor detects the light which is transmitted through the code wheel. As the code wheel rotates, the LED light either is blocked or reflected to the sensor, which generates an electrical pulse based on the light status. The pulse count is calibrated according to the geometrical pattern of the code wheel.

The light transmitted to the photosensor is controlled by the code wheel.
