Working Principle

The E6C3-CWZ3XH 1800P/R 2M is an incremental encoder, meaning it provides data in the form of pulses or racks. Its inner workings consist of a metal disc with circular markings on it, a light source, and a Photointerrupter IC (integrated circuit) with a photodiode or phototransistor. As the disk rotates, various patterns on the disk are overlaid on the light source, creating a digital output on the Photointerrupter IC.

The Photointerrupter IC sends digital pulses when the markings lined up in the light source. This digital pulse is either sent out from the encoder as a positive or negative signal. This signal is used by the motor’s control system to determine how the motor should be running in accordance with the desired performance desired.
