The EA-XPR-012 Evaluation Board’s primary function is to evaluate the performance of the Xtensa processor architecture when employed in embedded systems. It is a system-on-chip embedded platform that is designed to support various digital signal processor (DSP) and microcontroller (MCU) cores. The EA-XPR-012 offers an ideal platform for product prototyping, system-level integration, system-level software development, embedded hardware and software debug, development of real-time systems, and evaluation of embedded system dynamics.
The Xtensa processor architecture is a superscalar, high performance, multi-threaded processor that is able to scale from low power to extremely high performance cores. It is designed for superior CPU performance, low power consumption, and optimized memory bandwidth. The EA-XPR-012 evaluation board has two 256KB Flash banks, one 8KB XIP Flash bank, three 16KB RAM banks, and seven 4KB RAM banks.
The board offers many expansion options like an FPGA module, an extensive I/O port, a serial port bridge, and an integrated debugging environment. The Xtensa processor on the board can be configured to run at frequencies up to 66 MHz. The board is also equipped with an optional automotive temperature-range operating voltage regulator for extended temperature operation. The EA-XPR-012 supports various software packages, including GCC, C++, Embedded C++, and bare-metal architectures. The board is also capable of powering the entire system through its 5V power supply.
The EA-XPR-012 evaluation board supports the latest EEMBC CoreMark and CoreMarks performance benchmarks for processors, enabling system engineers to gauge processor performance in comparison with a variety of application development requirements. In addition, the board features an integrated test logic controller for sophisticated hardware debug capabilities and differential input and output connectors for analog-to-digital conversions and other signal-modification activities.
The EA-XPR-012 evaluation board offers a broad range of peripherals, such as a fast analog-to-digital converter and a high-speed DPRAM connector for interfacing with external memories. The board also provides a USB Host connector, allowing the user to connect external devices such as keyboards and mice. It also has an on-board Ethernet hub with three 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports.
The EA-XPR-012 evaluation board is an excellent platform for prototyping, testing, and developing embedded applications. With its extensive range of peripherals and robust toolset, the board enables system engineers and embedded developers to easily evaluate the performance and the scalability of Xtensa processor architectures when used in embedded systems.
