Electric double layer capacitors (EDLC) are the most popular type of Supercapacitors. EDLCs are based on two layers of electrical charges, formed by an electrolyte and a matrix, which look like two plates in a real capacitor. As their name implies, the two layers are opposite in charge, with one side positive and the other side negative. This configuration allows them to store electrical energy and release it when needed.EDLCs have several advantages over traditional capacitors and batteries. They are highly efficient, have long cycle lifespans (up to 107 cycles or more), and are very small in size.
