The EL3H7(F)(EB)-VG device consists of a gallium arsenide infrared emitting diode connected in series with a photovoltaic output transistor. This combination provides superior isolation between input and output, up to 3750 Volt DC, and enhanced protection from high voltage transients. The infrared emitting diode produces an infrared light that is input to the phototransistor. The photovoltaic output transistor produces a voltage at its collector that corresponds to the amplitude of infrared light input to the transistor. In other words, the output is proportional to the light input to the photovoltaic transistor.
The EL3H7(F)(EB)-VG can reliably provide galvanic isolation between input and output with a typical response time of 100 microseconds. It has a relatively low output current and a maximum power dissipation of 600 mW. This device is widely used in the automation/control industry, due to its excellent galvanic isolation capability as well as its ability to protect from electrical noise, static electricity, and high voltage transients.
