Working principle

The EL4584CSZ implements a digitally controlled Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) with a low-noise voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and programmable frequency dividers. A digital PLL is a control system in which the output frequency is locked to a reference frequency. The input reference frequency is compared in phase and frequency with the output frequency, and the error signal is fed back to the VCO until the frequencies are locked. The VCO output frequency is controlled by an analog control voltage, so that small changes in the reference frequency can be followed accurately by the PLL.
