ELT3041 is a triac output, solid state optoisolator manufactured by IXYS Corporation. It is used for controlling low voltage AC circuits with 3A, 8A and AC output switch and is primarily intended for applications requiring low cost, easy to use solution for providing control with high isolation and low leakage current.

The ELT3041 optoisolator utilizes optical isolation in a single package to safely transfer power from input to output. A phototransistor is coupled to a LED across an internal dielectric barrier that provides an electrical insulation level of >2,500Vrms. This barrier also eliminates any sort of noise transference from the input to the output side.

The ELT3041 optoisolator has two input terminals - "IN+" and "IN-". When either the "IN+" or "IN-" voltage exceeds the zener voltage of the LED, the optical speedup on the output exhibits an increase. This change in speedup results in increased current through the load.

The output of ELT3041 consists of a SCR or Triac with the exact current conduction capability dependent on the device used. When the LED is triggered, the gate of the SCR or Triac is also triggered and the load will be powered. The power remains on, until the LED is deactivated, which also turns off the SCR. An important distinction between SCR and Triac is that a SCR only conducts current during the half cycle when the anode voltage is above the gate voltage.

The ELT3041 optoisolator has several types of applications. These include washing machine cycle control, air conditioner operation, remote switch and dimmer operation, doorbell switch applications, and many more. ELT3041 is designed to provide a single-parameter interface between slow, logic-level signals and AC or DC outputs.
