The EPM1510SJ is a high efficiency, low-profile, non-isolated step-down switching regu-lator. It is designed to generate regulated outputs in a wide range of applications, such as consumer, industrial, and automotive electronics. It is a “total solution” device, including a controller, MOSFETs, inductor, and compensation components. It is a drop in, plug and play IC for applications that require a wide VIN range.
The EPM1510SJ regulator IC is highly integrated and includes multiple safety features such as over-current protection, over-temperature protection, and short-circuit protection. The IC’s operating frequency can be programmed from 200kHz to 1.5MHz and is available in 4 fixed output voltages: 5V, 10V, 15V, and 20V. Its small 3mm × 3mm DFN package allows the design-er to easily and cost effectively implement a minimal footprint solution.
The EPM1510SJ provides excellent load and line regulation and is capable of providing up to 800mA of continuous output current. It includes a power-good flag indicator and is able to deliver an output voltage drop of only 50mV under full load conditions. It is designed for operations in ambient temperatures up to +85°C. In addition, the EPM1510SJ integrates a frequency jittering circuit to minimize EMI filter requirements.
The EPM1510SJ utilizes a fixed frequency, current mode control architecture to regulate its output voltage. The control circuit is located inside the IC and senses the differential voltage across the inductor. When the current reaches the threshold, the switching FETs are shut off and the circuit switches to the high-side diode for flyback period. The control circuitry then switches the FETs again, after the regulator settles at a regulated voltage. This switching action continues and thus maintains a regulated output voltage. Current-mode control improves transient response and reduces output ripple.
The EPM1510SJ is an ideal solution for low-power applications such as smart phones and tablets. It is also suitable for automotive applications such as Body Control Modules, Instrument Clusters, and safety critical battery-operated equipment wherein high efficiency and small package size are desired.
