RF Transceiver Modules

ETRX357-LRS-R8 is a low power radio transceiver module of the family of RF Transceiver Modules. It operates at 2.4GHz ISM band with crystal accuracy. It is specifically suitable for applications such as Zigbee and IEEE 802.15.4 for smart homes. Interfaced to a microcontroller, it provides a transparent RF link by determining the maximum power transmission level in uninterfered areas and transmits data over a long haul.

Application Field

ETRX357-LRS-R8 is used for short range and low cost applications like remote sensors and hand helds. The radio modules find application in areas such as energy meters, electric meter readers, medical devices, remote controls, asset tracking, security devices, water controllers and home automation. It is operating in proprietary / standard like Zigbee, IEEE 802.15.4, 6LowPAN, ZNET, PRO and Clear Channel Assessment (CCA) modes.

Working Principle

ETRX357-LRS-R8 operates in both the transmitter and receiver modes. In the transmitter mode, it modulates the data supplied and amplifies the signal to be transmitted. The radio module is then tuned, along with the antenna, for maximum efficiency of radiating energy in the form of radio frequency wave. The radio module is also capable of receiving these radio waves because of its receive sensitivity. In the receiver mode, ETRX357-LRS-R8 operates by passing received RF signals to an Low Noise Amplifier, which amplifies the signal to a level compatible to the radio module and helps to receive the signal of the remote station. The radio module recognizes the signal as authentic when the data being received falls within values set for the receiver.

Radio modules come with a wide range of features to increase efficiency and performance. The basic building block of a radio module is an ASIC with a few external components. Some radio modules may come with protocol acceleration for faster performances. It is important to note that most radio modules are limited mainly to one version of a protocol such as Zigbee. If the product requires support for multiple protocols, then multiple modules must be used.
