Linear Voltage Regulators (LVR) are commonly used in many applications. They are used to maintain a constant voltage level throughout an electrical system, even when changes in input supply voltage occur. The EVAL01-HMC1060LP3E is a low power (IES<1.3mA) linear regulator specifically developed for a range of portable applications such as mobile phones, portable instrumentation and digital home devices. This device is ideally suited to provide a regulated 1.2V and 3.3V output from an input voltage between 1.8V and 5.5V.
The EVAL01-HMC1060LP3E has been designed to meet the ever-growing demand for reliable, low-power and low-cost linear voltage regulators for portable devices. This device provides reliable voltage regulation with minimum power dissipation. It has a fast transient response time and a low quiescent current of less than 1.3mA. It also offers a wide temperature operating range (-40°C to +85°C) and is protected against over-voltage, under-voltage and thermal limitation.
The working principle of the EVAL01-HMC1060LP3E is based on the traditional linear voltage regulator design. It consists of a voltage reference, amplifiers, error detecting circuits, error amplifiers, and then controlling the output voltage with a series pass element. The outputs are regulated by sensing the difference between the reference voltage and the actual output voltage and then adjusting the output voltage to match the reference. This is achieved by adjusting the current through the series pass element.
