The F6E3-10DM2 is a type of transmitters and receivers coupled into a single transceiver with the function of data transmission and receipt. It is used to transmit digital data from a transmitting device (such as a computer) to a receiving device (such as a printer) by optical fiber, and also receive signals from receiving device for backward transmission. The transceiver consists of a transmitter, a receiver, and a laser driver integrated circuit.

The transmitting circuit is composed of a digital interface, a serializer, a laser driver, a laser tube (edge-emitting laser, also known as VCSEL) and an optical isolation device. The digital interface is responsible for receiving data and controlling signals from the motherboard. After the data is serialized by the serializer circuit, the laser driver drives the laser tube to modulate the digital data into light signals and couple them into the optical fiber through the optical isolation device.

The receiving circuit consists of a photodetector, an amplifier, a deserializer, and a digital interface. The photodetector converts the incoming optical signal into electrical signal which is further amplified by the amplifier circuit. After being deserialized by the deserializer circuit, the digital signal is sent to the motherboard of the digital device through the digital interface.

The F6E3-10DM2 has the advantage of being low power, small size, and low cost. It is fully compatible with the IEEE 802.3u Fast Ethernet standard. In addition, it supports both half-duplex and full-duplex mode and provides a link performance monitoring capability.
