FAN5307S15X, which is a step-down DC-DC converter IC from Fairchild Semiconductor, has one of the industry’s smallest package sizes and a wide input voltage range for applications involving portable electronics. It has thermally enhanced 0.4mmx0.4mm 10-pin QFN package which offers larger power capability compared to other packages. It operates from 4.5V to 28V input voltage range and provides fixed output voltage from 0.6V to 6V. The FAN5307S15X supports a large array of switching frequencies from 100kHz to 1MHz. It uses analog control scheme for improved transient response and high efficiency. It features ultra-low quiescent current of 10μA(typical) in shutdown mode and a high efficiency of up to 95%. The integrated power switch is available in two current ranges, 1.5A and 2A (both of 6W) and has a low on-resistance of 25mΩ and 63mΩ, respectively. Additionally, it provides integrated over-current protection, embedded soft-start and current limit protection.The FAN5307S15X is a synchronous buck regulator and its basic operating principle is the same as a conventional buck regulator. It controls the output voltage by adjusting the duty cycle of the switch. As the input voltage increases, the duty cycle is decreased to maintain the output voltage. The power switch is driven directly from the PWM signal and the type of modulation used is Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). The PWM signal is generated using a voltage mode control scheme.The FAN5307S15X is suitable for a wide range of applications including onboard computing, servers, portable battery powered applications and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). It is designed for use in logic supply rails, graphics processor applications and portable charger applications.
