Introduction

FAN5066M is an advanced, low-side, non-inverting synchronous DC/DC switching controller with integrated MOSFET drivers and protection from OCP, overvoltage and inrush current. The FAN5066M is the fourth generation of a highly efficient SMBus controlled DC/DC switching regulator for synchronous buck and boost topologies. With the folding ability for the buck and synchronous buck topologies, the FAN5066M can also be used in applications such as SEPIC or any other synchronization or foldback topology. Working Principle of FAN5066M

The FAN5066M features an integrated power stage that acts as a direct interface between the PMIC and the regulated output voltage. The power stage is an DC/DC converter with an integrated pulse width modulator (PWM) and n-channel MOSFET drivers. The PWM supports a wide range of modulation frequencies up to 1MHz. The PWM switches the corresponding MOSFETs of the power stage, thereby providing regulation for the output voltage. The output voltage regulation is further enhanced by the integrated Advanced Current Limiting (ACL) feature that can modify the modulated signal to reduce output current. The FAN5066M also features an integrated soft-start function that ensure smooth start-up of the circuit.
