The FOD3180TSV is a fan-in type gate driver and optical isolator all-in-one package. It offers a highly integrated solution for driving an IGBT-based power switch that can support a wide range of motor drive, power conversion, and motor control applications. Its integrated optical isolator provides galvanic isolation of the control and high-side power domains, providing excellent noise immunity and additional protection in case of a fault. The FOD3180TSV employs an innovative signal-inversion technique to convert the input signal to the desired output. The primary purpose of this technique is to reduce the amount of energy needed to drive the high-side IGBTs, thereby improving efficiency and performance. Additionally, this technique reduces the amount of power dissipation due to gate switching, which results in a cooler operating temperature thus improving the lifetime of the driver itself.
The FOD3180TSV utilizes Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Silicon Carbide (SiC) based power transistors as well as the latest digital signal processing algorithms to provide an optimum solution for providing higher efficiency and enabling faster switching of high-side power switches. Furthermore, the FOD3180TSV features integrated power loss protection, hot temperature protection, and short circuit protection to ensure performance and safety.
The FOD3180TSV can operate with gate voltages ranging from 12V to 15V and is able to provide up to 2A of gate current. This provides enough driving current for more powerful switching applications and can be used to drive various IGBT modules in multiple configurations for the most demanding applications. The device features versatile input signal conditioning functionality to support a wide range of motor control and PWM digital signal inputs.
The FOD3180TSV is designed to operate in a wide range of ambient temperatures (-40°C to +85°C) and is packaged into a 6mmx6mm WL-CG-VQFN package offering high power density and a high level of thermal dissipation. With all of these features combined, the FOD3180TSV offers a comprehensive solution for high-power power conversion applications.
