One of the most popular and widely used optoisolators is the FOD852SD, a photovoltaic output optoisolator.

The FOD852SD is a three pin optoisolator consisting of a gallium arsenide infrared (GaAs IR) light-emitting diode (LED) couple to a silicon phototransistor output. This device is a low-cost optoisolator and can tolerate input-to-output isolation ratings up to 6kVrms. The device couple a gallium arsenide LED with a silicon phototransistor of optimized characteristics for minimum current transfer ratio variation over a wide temperature range and is designed for use in TTL logic-style circuits. The FOD852SD has a minimum trigger current that is more than 1mA, and the isolation voltage is 6kVrms.

The working principle of the FOD852SD is one where it uses the principle of optical isolation to separate input and output signals.
